Marcello Barbanera

Marcello Barbanera is professor of Greek and Roman art at Sapienza University of Rome. He spent study periods at La Sorbonne (1997), in Berlin (Humboldt Foundation, 1998 and 2005) and in New York (Columbia University 1999). Visiting professor in Paris (Ecole des Hautes Etudes 1997 and INHA 2006), Kress Lecturer for the Archaeological Institute of America (2008). Member of the German Archaeological Institute. Fellow of the Morphomata Kolleg in Cologne (2012-13). Director of the Museum of Classical Art. President of the Sapienza Museum Centre. Since 2020 he has been appointed director of the archaeological mission Elaiussa Sebaste in Turkey. His research activity is oriented towards the history of archaeology, Greek sculpture, the methodology of art history, the history of collecting, the archaeology of Magna Graecia, museography, the reception of antiquity and Greek and Roman iconography.
