Personalization of services and participation in events based on user preferences

Vianet and its partners have conceived, designed, and tested the ENGAGE project, creating a front-end (the MiraPalermo app) and a back-end, which includes AI models and algorithms.

The MiraPalermo app stands out with its unique ability to guide user behavior, whether they are visitors, tourists, or end users, before, during, and after their visit or participation in a vacation, exhibition, or event. This distinct approach is designed to enhance their understanding and interpretation of cultural visits or a smart vacation, leading to more meaningful experiences aligned with their preferences and, therefore, greater satisfaction.

The project is strategically in sync with the European Parliament’s guidelines, which, in May 2023, endorsed a document titled ‘Artificial intelligence in the context of cultural heritage and museums’ to boost visits and tourism. The document particularly highlights the personalization concepts integrated into MiraPalermo. This alignment underscores the project’s innovative and strategic nature, as the application uses AI to define and develop user behavior models that personalize event and exhibition content, enhance the territory, and interact with the local community.

The MiraPalermo app leverages cutting-edge technology, including Large Language Models (LLMs), a type of AI algorithm trained on large amounts of text, and user segmentation. These advanced tools empower us to personalize the visitor’s experience to an exceptional degree, enriching their cultural journey.

The increased popularity also drives publishing and social media sharing, boosting brand awareness. That attracts new visitors and has a significant impact on the local economy, improving the circular economy and sustainability.

The project uses user segmentation, enabling content tailored to visitor types. It is precisely this identity that allows visitors to navigate content explicitly selected based on their cultural background, desires, or inclinations, and past experiences.
By attracting and engaging new audiences, particularly domestic and international tourists, the MiraPalermo app has the potential to significantly boost the local and regional economy, creating a ripple effect of prosperity.
This results in increased visitors and sales, product and service differentiation and innovation, greater loyalty to the services provided, greater seasonal attendance, and openness to new target user segments.

In conclusion, the MiraPalermo app is poised to revolutionize the way large groups of users, including young people, interact. It speaks the language visitors expect, understand, and recognize as familiar, ensuring a seamless, enjoyable cultural experience.
The content is not dull or alien to the user, unlike in most cases; the stories are personalized based on the user’s experience and preferences.
The personalization of cultural content opens a new chapter in visitors’ enjoyment and active participation in tours, guides, and cultural events.
The exhibition or visit satisfies the visitor, encouraging them to participate in promoting the event, the brand, the territory, and the attractions, with obvious benefits for all stakeholders.
