Presentation of Case Studies
Established in 2005, and with a defined schedule through 2030, “DeChildren” has seen an increase in awareness of the child’s potential and inner vision, transcending a number of limits implicitly imposed by dominant social and cultural conventions.
Since its inception and until 2014, the then Museum of Cultures’ Heleneum has welcomed a total of about 750 schoolchildren from Lugano, engaged in pedagogical and creative projects straddling school and museum.
After moving to Villa Malpensata, the cycle now starts again with a new formula.
Without renouncing the idea of conceiving the museum as a privileged place to bring to life child-friendly “virtual universes,” a new starting point was created: children’s works of art from the past, to be taken as a reference for exploring children’s modes of expression, capable of transcending the boundaries of time and cultures.
“Dèibambini,” is a simple name, able with just a few syllables to emphasize the centrality of young artists, without forgetting the substantial value of the discovery of children’s creativity in European culture between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The conference is an opportunity to learn about a rare project conceived and organized over a span of 25 years.
