Maria Giuseppina Di Monte
Born and living in Rome. Married with two sons.
Graduated in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures with honors from the “Sapienza” University of Rome and later in History of Art in the same University.
PhD in Art History at the University of Basel.
Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale as Professor of Contemporary Art and Art Criticism (2018) Currently Director of two Musem House: H.C. Andersen and M. Praz, both in Rome, as well as Giacomo Manzù Museum in Ardea (Mi Bact).
Coordinator of the Visual Studies Rome Network and co-director of the Visual Studies Series fo the publisher Carocci (Rome), member of the permanent “Sensibilia Workshop: Colloquium on Perception and Experience of the University of Tor Vergata”. Recently Director of the Review “Reading Rooms: Review of Museum Houses, Libraries and Archives” (Mi Bact). Teacher in Master’s Degree “Theory and technique of aesthetic and museum communication” of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She has been teacher of Contemporary Art, Museology and Art Theory in Universities and Academies in Italy and abroad. Curator at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome since 2002 up to 2015. Author of art monographies on Museology, Art Criticism and Art of the XIX, XX and XXI and of multiple contributions to books and reviews.
Curator of exhibitions on contemporary art and art of the XX century in outstanding Italian and international museums and institutions.Research Fellow of the British School at Rome and “high expert” at MUR/Anvur (Italian Agency for High Education Evaluation).
Member of Scientific Committees, involved in project of museum education and communication, also in the field of accessibility. She matured a strong experience in museum management, sustenibility and innovative museum programme. She won many competitions in the field of contemporary art.
