ASSOCIAZIONE NAZIONALE ARCHEOLOGI

STAND D06

The National Archaeologists Association (ANA) is the professional association that coordinates and represents all Italian archaeologists, regardless of the field and the work sector in which they practice their profession.
ANA has a widespread territorial structure in all Italian regions, thanks to which it intervenes extensively, with competence and experience, on all national, regional and local issues, to protect the professional category of archaeologists and the archaeological heritage.
Since 2016 it has obtained the recognition of the Ministry of Economic Development as a representative institution of Italian archaeologists (L. 4/2013).
Thanks to the continuous dialogue with all institutions, at any level, the National Archaeologists Association has participated and participates in all the main consultation tables on national and local policies regarding cultural heritage and those of the professions connected to them. By virtue of the driving force of the ANA, in 2014 the first national law was approved that recognizes the professional figure of the archaeologist and other professionals of cultural heritage (L. 110/2014). Its implementing regulation was approved in 2019 (D.M. 244/2019) incorporating most of the information provided by the Association and establishing the List of Professionals of Cultural Heritage at the MiBACT: it is the first concrete tool for protecting the profession of archaeologists in Italy.
About international policies, the ANA contributed to the ratification in Italy of the Malta Convention (1992) and was audited several times in the national parliament regarding the ratification of the Faro Convention (2005). Representatives of the ANA are in contact with the main national associations representing archaeologists in the EU member states for the definition of common paths for the integration of regulations and procedures aimed at building an integrated European professional landscape. The action of the ANA is conducted through its national (Presidency, Secretariat, Board of Directors, Colleges) and regional bodies (Sections, Committees). All bodies and offices are renewed every three years and are open to the participation of any archaeologist in good standing with the registration. The National Archaeologists Association also provides a national Ethical Code to which all its members are bound and through which the association acts as a promoter, guarantor and judge of professional ethics, procedures and scientific standards of archaeologists operating in Italy and abroad. In 2016 the ANA was admitted to Confprofessioni, the Italian Confederation of Free Professions founded in 1966 which is the main organization representing the freelancers in Italy (http://www.confprofessioni.eu).
