
Federico Valacchi
He is a full professor of archival studies. Trained in the traditional framework of the archival discipline, he then attempted to combine classical concepts with social and technological innovation. His main areas of research have been those related to the relationship between information technologies and archives with particular reference to the Web and the problems of long-term preservation of computer records. More recently, he has been interested in the political and social role of archives and the archival discipline, reflecting on the concepts of active archivalism and public archival science.
Since 2021 he has been president of AIDUSA (Italian Association of University Professors of Archival Science). He has published monographs and articles in scholarly journals in the field related to the topics of archival resource automation, professional training, and archival description and communication. He is a member of the faculty of the Doctoral Program in Documentary, Linguistic and Literary Sciences at the University of Rome La Sapienza. He is co-director of the journal “J-LIS” and a member of the scientific committee of the journals “AIDA Informazioni,” “Il Capitale culturale,” “Nuovi annali della Scuola Speciale per archivisti e bibliotecari,” DIgeat.
