Don Giuseppe Pontillo

Giuseppe Pontillo, priest of the Archdiocese of Agrigento since 1997. He has held various roles within the diocesan curia. He is currently Director of the Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage and of the Pastoral Office for Tourism.

He was the commissioning parish priest for the new Church of San Gregorio in Agrigento and oversaw both the construction and community processes for four other new churches. He has promoted and completed numerous projects for the restoration of the architectural and artistic heritage of the diocese—among the most significant being the securing and enhancement of the Cathedral of Agrigento.

He designed and implemented the Arte&Fede and Arkeo&Fede itineraries in the historic center of Agrigento, as well as in Caltabellotta and Sciacca. He reopened the Diocesan Museum of Agrigento in the Episcopal Palace and set up the Mudia exhibition halls inside the Cathedral. He also promoted the Mudia museums in Sambuca di Sicilia and Sciacca.

As founder and president of the Ecclesiaviva Association, he constantly promotes projects aimed at enhancing both tangible and intangible heritage. Together with the Association and the Diocesan Museum, he developed the project for removing sensory and cognitive barriers in the Diocesan Museum and in the Cathedral of Agrigento.

He conceived and supported the creation of Anthos, a company dedicated to the management of visitor services and the enhancement of the Arte&Fede – Oltre la Valle itinerary.

A journalist, he has published several monographs and specialized articles.
