REGIONE AUTONOMA FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA- DIREZIONE CENTRALE CULTURA E SPORT
| The Department for culture and sports of Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region plays a strategic role in the protection, enhancement and promotion of the region’s cultural and museum heritage. Through a comprehensive set of activities and tools, the Regional Department promotes the growth of the museum system, the conservation of cultural heritage and its accessibility to an increasingly wide and diverse audience. Its main responsibilities include planning and coordinating sector policies, issuing calls for proposals and funding measures for civic museums, ecclesiastical institutions, associations and cultural organizations, as well as supporting innovation, exhibition and promotion projects. The Regional Department also manages the regional information system SIRPAC, which collects and makes available online information on the region’s cultural heritage. Strong emphasis is placed on promoting museums and ecomuseums through initiatives aimed at renewing exhibitions, creating innovative visitor itineraries and enhancing cultural tourism, which is considered a strategic lever for sustainable development and regional attractiveness. The Regional Department also supports initiatives dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, such as historic gardens and parks, libraries, fortified architecture and various types of museums, including ethnographic museums, art galleries, exhibition halls and places of remembrance. This framework also includes the Region’s activities relating to UNESCO World Heritage, which include support for the cataloguing, conservation and enhancement of recognised assets, as well as the promotion of new nominations and projects to improve their accessibility and educational function. The operational implementation of regional cultural policies is entrusted to the Regional Cultural Heritage Authority (ERPAC),which supports the Regional Department as its technical and specialist agency. ERPAC promotes and coordinates the cataloguing, conservation, restoration and enhancement of cultural heritage, bringing together human and technical resources and promoting the integrated management of cultural institutions in the region. ERPAC directly manages a number of important museums, which are a point of reference for the knowledge and enhancement of the regional heritage. These include the Musei Provinciali of Gorizia, with their main exhibition venue at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, which house archaeological, fashion, applied arts and Great War collections, as well as the provincial art gallery. These are complemented by the “Luigi Spazzapan” Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art in Gradisca d’Isonzo, the “Diogene Penzi” Museum of Rural Life in San Vito al Tagliamento, the monumental complex of Villa Manin in Passariano di Codroipo and the Magazzino delle Idee in Trieste. Through this synergy between the Department for culture and sports and ERPAC, the Region is building an integrated and participatory museum system capable of combining protection, innovation and accessibility, making culture a vital element for the economic and social growth of Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region. |
