Ahlem Boussandel Jammali is an important figure in the field of art and culture in Tunisia.
A doctoral candidate in the sciences and techniques of the arts, she is a graduate of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis.
Currently director general of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MACAM) in Tunis, she occupies a central role in the conservation and promotion of Tunisian modern and contemporary art.
In addition to her museographic work, she teaches at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Tunis, where she trains generations of artists and art professionals. She is also an artist painter, which allows her to maintain an artistic practice while contributing to the development of the Tunisian art landscape through her academic and institutional roles. A career as rich as hers reflects a deep commitment to art, both as a creator and promoter of artistic initiatives. At the heart of her cultural endeavors, Ahlem Boussandel Jammali has managed several major art projects, most notably the management of the national fund through the exhibition of the museum’s permanent collection under the title memory of generations (1984 – 2024).
He also supervised the project “The Museum in the Regions,” seeking to decentralize access to art in Tunisia.
In addition, her doctoral thesis, focusing on the interpretation of artwork from the perspective of transformation, reflects her intellectual approach to art, which explores how works evolve and transform across contexts and eras. As an author, Ahlem Boussandel Jammali has published several scholarly articles and art monographs. Among her notable publications is the article “Thinking the Museum” that appeared in 2024 in a catalog entitled “MEMOIRE DE GENERATIONS.”
