Preserving and making some of the world’s most famous archaeological sites accessible means grappling daily with the need to balance conservation, public access, and sustainable tourism.
The event brings together the experiences of two iconic sites of world cultural heritage: the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the Petra Archaeological Park, both of which face the challenges of preserving a heritage of exceptional value and managing tourist flows of international significance.
Through a discussion between Simone Quilici, Director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, and Yazan Kamel Mahadin, former Commissioner for the Petra Archaeological Park and Tourism, the participants will explore strategies for conservation, visitor management, and improving accessibility, taking into account the different territorial and environmental characteristics of the two sites.
A discussion of management solutions and models capable of ensuring the preservation of archaeological heritage while, at the same time, promoting a more accessible, informed, and sustainable visitor experience.
