Jamel Hajji
Director of the Bardo National Museum / archaeological and historical researcher at the National Heritage Institute in Tunis since 2010. With a doctorate in languages, history and civilization of the ancient worlds from the University Lumière Lyon.2 (France), he has been specialized in recent years in the study of ancient mosaics, more specifically those of Roman Africa : their history, techniques, styles and decorative repertoires. Passionate about ancient art, mythology and Greco-Roman iconography, he is committed to clarifying and highlighting the iconographic and semantic peculiarities of mosaics, an important discipline of Tunisian cultural heritage/civilization, often neglected. Responsible for archaeological excavations at major Tunisian heritage sites, including Mactaris Musti and Thaenae. Responsible for the restoration and enhancement of archaeological monuments. Member of several Franco-Tunisian and Italian-Tunisian archaeological cooperation projects. Also, co-director of scientific/cultural, Tunisian-French and Tunisian-Polish cooperation projects.
His field of work has led him to co-organize numerous cultural activities and scientific exhibitions at the Bardo Museum as well as Musti and Thaenae archaeological sites, developing new approaches to reaching and interacting with diverse audiences.
