REDESIGNING THE MUSEUM EXPERIENCE THROUGH LIGHT, DATA AND INCLUSION. PROJECTS AND SUCCESS STORIES

Coffee Meeting promoted by LiFi Art To Be

The Coffee Meeting will focus on the transformative role of Value-Added Lighting in the Cultural Heritage sector. It’s no longer just about seeing the artworks, but about experiencing them.

The discussion will explore how light, through technological innovation, becomes a true storytelling tool—capable of creating proximity-based experiences and ensuring deep inclusion.

Key discussion points will include:

Architectural and Museum Lighting (Indoor & Outdoor): exploration of tailored lighting design methods, where light enhances heritage both in exhibition spaces and outdoors. Dynamic architectural lighting transforms façades and monuments into visual storytelling, while indoor lighting becomes an integral part of the display design.

LiFi: A Tool for Storytelling and Accessibility: LiFi (Light Fidelity) and visible light communication (VLC) technologies transform ordinary lighting into a high-precision communication and geolocation channel, enabling Indoor Navigation and Wayfinding. This allows the transmission of real-time data and multimedia content, offering a personalized proximity experience. The result is unprecedented accessibility, aligned with the Design for All principle.

Inclusion and Digital Content: discussion on how the integration of accessible digital content—from descriptive audio narrations to LIS (Italian Sign Language) videos and easy-to-read texts—overcomes communication and sensory barriers. Light becomes the guide that connects every visitor, regardless of ability, with history and art.

The meeting will also feature analysis of projects and success stories carried out in collaboration with archaeological and museum sites of the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC), such as the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Royal Palace of Caserta, and the Archaeological Park of Sibari, as well as civic and municipal museums like the Villa Burba Museum in Rho and the Archaeological Museum of Altamura. These examples demonstrate how the strategic use of light, data, and LiFi technologies is redefining the cultural experience—making it richer, more engaging, and, above all, universal.
