INDUSTRIAL APPIA: CONTEMPORARY HERITAGE TRAILS OF THE REGINA VIARUM<\/strong><\/p>

in collaboration with MiC General Secretariat, AIPAI, Italian Association for Industrial Archaeological Heritage and TICCIH Italy, International Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage and Santagata Foundation for the Economy of Culture.<\/p>

The focus of the Appia Industriale project goes to the more recent vicissitudes of the Regina Viarum that have resulted in the sedimentation of assets recognizable as 19th- and 20th-century heritage, architectures of the modern, and productive systems representative of the economic and social history of the area.<\/p>

Consistent with the underlying principles of the MiC-coordinated candidacy, Appia Industriale considers the Appia a living reality through the centuries that therefore presents: memories of production and infrastructural evidence; evidence of technological innovation and constructive experimentation, starting with the Real Ferdinando bridge; networks of territorial works for land reclamation and the industrialization of agriculture; architectural and urban heritages of the 20th century; and rural hamlets.<\/p>

The evidence of a contemporary, inhabited and vital Appian Way, on the one hand includes many firsts of industrial archaeology, landscape and contemporary architecture, potential nodes of tourist and cultural itineraries, but at the same time it is urgent to address them in a systemic way since the anthropization of the twentieth century has also generated many critical issues that are still searching for a balance with the ancient route and its values.<\/p>
