Volker Mosbrugger

Director General Senckenberg Society for Nature Research

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Volker Mosbrugger is professor for Palaeontology and Historic Geology at Goethe University, Frankfurt, and Director General of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research, Frankfurt. In his research, he is particularly interested in the natural and manmade dynamics of the earth system and has initiated and co-ordinated many interdisciplinary research programs.
Senckenberg is Germany’s largest Nature research institution with seven institutes and approx. 850 employees, including three museums in Frankfurt, Görlitz and Dresden. Its research focuses on the role of biodiversity in earth system dynamics, unravelling the interconnections of life forms with other components of the earth system such as the atmosphere, water, ice, soil, rock and – last but not least – mankind. A profound understanding of the natural and anthropogenic dynamics of planet earth is key to develop science-based strategies how to maintain the natural capital as the very basis of our existence.
